Vans Vault Era LX Aloha

The Vans Era was a progression from the Vans Authentic, made for the skateboard market it took the classic silhouette that had been successful since 1966 and made a number of notable changes. The main difference is the padded collar and reinforced stitching to add extra resilience while skating. The 'Aloha' capsule collection is part of the Limited Edition Vans Vault range featuring a Hawaiian style print perfect for the summer.

Album Review....... Austra: Feel it Break

It’s a pleasing synchronicity: the very day that Kate Bush, the reclusive queen of quirk-pop, finally leaves her castle in the clouds to release her first album in six years, another Kate with a voice made for echoing around bleak landscapes, and a penchant for drama and the otherworldly, brings out her debut with Austra.

Opener Darken Her Horse is a fitting curtain-raiser of a spellbinding debut which revives the heavily-eyelinered, Elnett-sprayed corpse of British new wave, and casts it in mists of ethereal magic. Hymn-like, all chords and church choir vocals, it slowly builds to surging, Japan-inflected heights which lead you to the ‘floor to bust your best robot moves. As does last single Beat and the Pulse, which evokes the era’s sleazier Soho scene with keyboard lines redolent of 80s revivalists Fischerspooner and Soft Cell chimes. Elsewhere, Hate Crime, with its plentiful "oohoo"s (as beloved by Katie as Kate) and the gorgeous, incantatory The Choke (which is reminiscent of fellow Canadians The Organ) are hook-heavy enough to get you repeating such unlikely mantras as "Sign / The consent forms" as you make extravagant arm movements around the living room. You might feel a little daft, but the odd lyrics only add to this band’s appealing mystery.

YMC....

Formed in London in 1995 by Fraser Moss and Jimmy Collins, YMC has a remarkably strong identity for a brand still in its teenage years. Refusing to be swayed by fashion trends, YMC resolutely focuses on creating stylish, functional and modern clothing for guys and girls, allowing the product, rather than the marketing to speak for itself.
YMC’s main source of inspiration comes from Raymond Loewy, ‘the man who designed America’. Loewy is responsible for design classics such as the greyhound bus and the branding for Lucky Stripe and Shell. When once asked how he saw the future of design Loewy replied “you must create your own style”; from this simple manifesto YMC or “You Must Create” takes its name as well as its design cues, applying them to men’s and women’s wardrobe staples to create a highly distinctive and stylish look.

Vans Vault | Mid Skool ‘77 & Priz Laced

DQM released two interesting silhouettes from VANS VAULT: the Mid Skool ’77, and the Priz Laced. The ’77 has a decidedly old school feel, with a wrinkled leather upper and colorways straight out of the 1970′s. And while turning to a vintage aesthetic for inspiration is nothing new, Vans shows it has the decades of experience to do it right. The Priz Laced, while less “vintage,” is a timeless classic. It’s a slightly more constructed shoe than it’s counterparts, like the Classic or Era, but maintains the simplicity that is a core strength of Vans. The Priz combines a gum rubber sole, with a bone white canvas upper, finished off by brass eyelets, round laces, and a tonal Vans tag. Both great Summer options, and both available from DQM.

Since then he has developed a humble, casual, almost accidental style. He likes to react to the world, rather than pose it. IPAD 2 !!

Finally we can give you a first look at the new Apple iPad 2 !!

The new iPad 2 is faster, lighter and thinner than the first one. It is in fact thinner than the iPhone 4, which is pretty crazy. It comes with 10 hours battery life, it comes in both black and white from day one and features a HDMI video plug, two cameras, which is great. It starts once again at 499 USD and will release in the US on March 11th. Most of the rest of the world will see a release on March 25th.
A great new feature is also the Smart Cover. It is not a case, but a cover and when you close it the iPad 2 automatically goes to sleep.

Korg iMS app for ipad !!

Color me impressed. I would recommend this app to anyone who wants more than just a toy for making music on the iPad. I will definitely integrate some of the audio from this into my own workflow.

With MIDI implementation coming in iOS4 how the iMS-20 reacts to that development and the live capabilities it presents are yet to fully reveal themselves.

Turn up the heat !!

Stone Island Heat Reactive Jacket. This garment has been treated with a thermo-sensitive coating that changes colour at high temperatures. Beginning at 27°C the molecules within the microcapsules of the external strata undergo a rotation modifying the light course. The colour of the garment gradually begins to morph from a first colour to a second brighter colour. When the garment returns to normal temperature it recovers its original colour. The possible wearing off and shading variation of the material will not modify its thermo-sensible characteristics.

Re-birth of a legend

Persol is an Italian eyewear company specializing in sunglasses The name is derived from "per il sole," which, in Italian, means "for the sun." Formed in 1917 by Giuseppe Ratti, Persol originally catered to pilots and sports drivers. Presently, the company is famous for its durable sports sunglasses. Its trademark is the silver arrow, and several of the company's glasses feature this symbol.

Steve McQueen (below) popularized two Persol models: the 714 folding sunglasses and closely styled 649. He wore a special pair of 714's with blue lenses in The Thomas Crown Affair and was often photographed wearing the 649 model.

The Castells. - Romance

The Castells are a new bunch of upstarts from Durham. They've just finished recording their first EP titled 'Relatively Unknown'................ Turn up the sound and check these guys out !!

Frankie & The Heartstrings - Hunger

Homegrown....

Frankie and The Heartstrings are a five piece band from Sunderland. You might have seen them supporting The Futureheads on tour, you might have seen them at a festival or you might not have seen them at all - either way you’re bound to love them. Their mix of quick fire wit and smart indie pop combines with a soppy sentimental heart and romantic sensibility to make for a quintessentially British indie band.

Noizu are proud to join forces with the band for a live DJ set @ Osbournes bar (behind Van Mildert Durham)

............... The noise is set to go up a notch. Get involved !!

Big sorry from noizu

As the blog shows we ain't been keeping up as late (technical difficulties)!! A lot has been going on in noizuworld....

Movember was a huge success. Facial hair at it's best. Great turn out. And also the important bit...... Money and awareness was raised for the event.

December we stepped up a gear. The Castells played live. Packed to the rafters not a dry mouth in the house.

.....So after the festive season (and a drunken one it was) we've recharged our batteries and are back........ LETS PARTY !!

Ps....... Massive thanks to The Castells, Peter Warrier, Rob Oxley and DJ "shit lips" Mr Chris Parkes

....... And also a big thanks to everyone who came along and got involved !!

Keep it up !!

Noizu present........ Frankie and the Heartstrings

Ready to start feeling all gooey about homegrown grassroots indie? I know, it's been a while, right?

Frankie And The Heartstrings are the excellent Sunderland band who've been putting the lead back in the pencil of proper indie fans up and down this fair nation - a yellsome clatter here, a horsed Geordie swoon.

Noizu will host Frankie and the Heartstrings live DJ set @ Osbournes Durham.

......... Get ready for a party !!
